Public officials and environmentalists in Lake County are hopeful a proposal working its way through the state Legislature could bring much-needed money to fund efforts to clean up Clear Lake and restore surrounding wetlands.

Senate Bill 1396, authored by state Senator Lois Wolk, D-Davis, and Assemblyman Bill Dodd, D-Napa, would establish a new state conservancy stretching from Solano County to the Oregon border. It would expand protections and enhance restoration of natural resources within all or parts of 13 counties, including Lake, Mendocino and Napa.

NAPA >> An inaugural Spring Community Employment Expo is planned for April 23 at Napa Valley College, Assembly member Bill Dodd’s office announced this week.

Dodd, Workforce Napa and the Department of State Hospitals, have partnered to sponsor what organizers say they hope is the first Spring Community Employment Expo from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., April 23.

SACRAMENTO – A bill by Assemblymember Bill Dodd (D-Napa) to protect students and teachers during earthquakes took an important step forward this week, receiving unanimous bipartisan support from the Assembly Education Committee.

Dodd’s bill would require school districts in California to ensure that the contents of their classroom, like heavy bookshelves or hanging light fixtures, comply with state earthquake safety guidelines.

A gender pay equity bill by Assembly member Bill Dodd moved closer to becoming a law after receiving unanimous bipartisan support from the Assembly Labor Committee, the Napa Democrat’s office announced.

The legislation would ensure companies doing business with the state of California have fair compensation policies and practices that do not unlawfully differentiate between gender and race, he said.

AMERICAN CANYON — Scams, fraud and identity theft can strike anyone, particularly many older people living in the Napa Valley. That’s why the Senior Scam Stopper seminar was held Monday in American Canyon to provide information on the myriad ways criminals try to prey on vulnerable people.

Organized by Assemblyman Bill Dodd, D-Napa, and the Contractors State License Board, the event offered tips and tragic tales to educate and help people avoid getting ripped off by those running schemes through the mail, by phone, on the Internet or in person through a knock on the front door.

More than 900 people joined U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell for a community dedication ceremony Saturday for the recently designated Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument in California.

The national monument designation efforts were spearheaded by conservation nonprofit, Tuleyome, based in Woodland.

SACRAMENTO — State Sen. Lois Wolk, D-Davis, and Assemblyman Bill Dodd, D-Napa introduced legislation Friday to establish a state conservancy to protect, preserve and restore the Northern Inner Coast Range’s natural, historical, cultural and other attributes — building on last year’s declaration of the Berryessa Snow Mountain Region as a National Monument by President Barack Obama.
