Ruling enables nonprofits to use innovative fundraising tool

SACRAMENTO—Senator Lois Wolk (D-Davis) today applauded a decision by the Superior Court of California enabling greater use of remote caller bingo, an innovative fundraising tool for nonprofits throughout the state. The ruling late last week affirmed the court’s tentative decision to require the California Gambling Control Commission to continue the regulation of the game, allowing its continued use.

Wolk proposes 55 percent voter approval for local library measures

SACRAMENTO--Senator Lois Wolk (D-Davis) announced today that she will introduce a state constitutional amendment  next week to make it easier for local governments to raise funds to support public libraries by lowering the vote requirement for local library bonds and taxes from two-thirds to 55 percent, similar to K-12 school bond measures.

SACRAMENTO—This weekend the Governor vetoed Senate Bill 214, legislation by Senator Lois Wolk (D-Davis) to remove key impediments barring local government officials from finance public work projects, create high-paying jobs, and promote sustainable growth in their communities using infrastructure financing districts (IFD). 

New laws address flood protection, jobs creation in Delta

SACRAMENTO—The Governor today signed a package of three measures by State Senator Lois Wolk (D-Davis) on high priority issues within the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta: flood protection and job creation.  The new laws, which received near unanimous support from both sides of the aisle, will take effect January 1, 2013.
