SACRAMENTO, CA – Mojo’s Kitchen428, a farm-to-table restaurant located in downtown Woodland, was honored Wednesday in the state Capitol as the 2015 Small Business of the Year for the 4th Assembly District. Each year, the state Assembly honors one small business from each of the state’s Assembly Districts who has significantly contributed to their local communities.

“Being named Small Business of the Year is a tremendous honor since we have so many wonderful small businesses in our area.  It’s truly a pleasure to serve the Woodland community,” said Christy Hayes, owner of Mojo’s Kitchen428. “I want to thank Assemblymember Dodd for the recognition.”

Mojo's Kitchen428 is an upscale yet casual restaurant in Woodland that is known for local food sourcing, having subscribed to the farm-to-fork movement since 2012. As a locally owned small business, Mojo's Kitchen428 strives to invest back in the community through sponsoring local civic and charity events and generously donating to various causes in the Woodland area.

“I am proud to recognize Christy Hayes as my small business owner of the year,” Assemblymember Dodd Said. “As a former small business owner for over 25 years, I know how important small businesses are for our communities. I find Christy’s entrepreneurial and charitable spirit inspiring, and I think it’s important to show our continued support for our small businesses.”

Through collaborative work with neighboring businesses, retailers and restaurants, Christy Hayes and her staff have played a vital role in the revitalization of historic Woodland’s downtown core. In addition to her involvement with numerous non-profits, Hayes serves on Boards of the Downtown Business Association and the Yolo County Visitor’s Bureau. Hayes puts on free community events such as “Food Truck Mania” and “Hot Summer Nights” classic car show that can be enjoyed throughout the summer months.
