Dodd resolution urges federal action on oil trains

Assemblyman Bill Dodd, D-Napa, has introduced a resolution petitioning President Obama, Congress and federal regulators to take swift action concerning the safe transport of crude oil and other volatile liquids by rail.

In recent years, the California Legislature has taken steps to improve emergency preparedness for rail safety. However, federal law largely prevents state regulation of rail transportation, thus requiring federal action, Dodd said in a news release.
