Senator Dodd issues statement on DACA

Wednesday, September 13, 2017

“America is a nation of immigrants. California is a state of immigrants. Ten percent of our state’s workforce is undocumented. These are our family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues. And the most vulnerable among the undocumented are our young people. These are the people brought to this country while still children. We must support DACA and these Dreamers. They were raised in the United States. Some have no memory of the land of their birth. Some don’t even know they are undocumented until they apply for a college loan or a job. Many of these people have given back to their community and enriched us all. We will not allow the Trump Administration to strip our communities of these amazing people. In California, we are being proactive to support these young people. We are working to provide legal representation to those facing deportation. We are working to make our state a welcoming place for all, free from fear and profiling. At the end of the day, we’re all people. We all deserve respect and opportunity. That’s what we’re standing up for in California, and I urge those in D.C. to stand with us.”
