SACRAMENTO – The next two hearings of the Conference Committee on Wildfire Preparedness and Response will be Aug. 7 and Aug. 9 in the state Capitol’s John L. Burton Hearing Room 4203.

The Aug. 7 hearing begins at 2 p.m. The subject is ensuring a safe and reliable electric grid. The Aug. 9 hearing begins upon adjournment of Senate and Assembly floor sessions. The subject is inverse condemnation and electric utilities.

Senator Bill Dodd, D-Napa, is co-chairman of the committee. Other members are: Senator Anthony Canella, R-Ceres; Senator Ben Hueso, D-San Diego; Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson, D-Santa Barbara; Senator Jeff Stone R-Temecula; Assemblymember Chris Holden, D-Pasadena (co-chair); Assemblymember Brian Dahle, R-Bieber; Assemblymember Chad Mayes, R-Yucca Valley; Assemblymember Eloise Gómez Reyes, D-San Bernardino; and Assemblymember Jim Wood, D-Healdsburg.

The first hearing was held last week.

Gov. Jerry Brown and legislative leaders in July announced the formation of the committee to strengthen disaster preparedness and set forth appropriate policies to respond to the increasing wildfire danger. The governor said Senate Bill 901, introduced by Senator Dodd, will be moved into the committee where it will be amended to achieve that goal.
