Dear Neighbor,

February is Black History Month when we celebrate the history and contributions of African Americans. It is also a time to recognize what still needs to be done in the continuing struggle for civil rights.

Please join me March 21 for my next virtual town hall on the emergence of artificial intelligence. Machine learning poses many challenges including threats to our privacy and algorithmic discrimination.

I hope your new year is off to a great start. This month I introduced new bills to protect wildlife habitat and prevent cybersecurity threats on state-owned cell phone and computers. They are just two of the proposals I will be making in 2023.

I’d like to wish you and your loved ones happy holidays and a joyous new year.

We have achieved much over the past 12 months – from enhancing wildfire safety to promoting construction of new housing. Nineteen bills I wrote that were signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom take effect by Jan. 1. There is still more to do, and I look forward to another productive year.
