Napa Senior Issues Forum: Healthcare, Services Fraud Prevention & More

Friday, September 14, 2018

NAPA – Senator Bill Dodd, D-Napa, will host a public forum in Napa on September 28 to address important issues facing seniors – from healthcare to fraud prevention – and to inform people about the services available to them.

A panel of experts from government agencies and advocacy groups will give presentations. Attendees will be able to ask questions about state and local policy as well discuss issues affecting elder communities.

“Seniors can be a vulnerable population and it is essential that we care for them and provide them with the services they deserve,” Senator Dodd said. “That’s why I’m proud to host this forum to discuss critical new information, hear concerns and outline programs in place to help our seniors.”

One of the speakers, Frank Nelson, a senior healthcare advocate serving six counties including Napa County, will talk about major changes to Medicare in 2019 that could affect eligibility.

“It is important that Medicare beneficiaries understand how to navigate the details,” said Nelson, a regional manager for HICAP, the Health Insurance Counseling Advocacy Program. “Having a truly unbiased source enables them to understand any changes or issues so that can make informed decisions.”
