A Message from Bill Dodd

Dear Neighbor,

As families prepare to give thanks this week, our thoughts turn to neighbors across the state who are suffering, as we have, from catastrophic wildfire. Our hearts go out to them as well as the first-responders who are risking everything to keep Californians safe from the deadly infernos.

I am grateful for the opportunity to serve you in the state Capitol. Our new legislative session begins Dec. 3 and I expect to take up a number of important issues in addition to wildfire protection including improving transportation, social services, water resources, insurance and education. Please let me know your ideas for legislation.

Also, I am holding a series of town halls in the district in the coming weeks. The  Sonoma County Small Business Forum is Nov. 27 in Cotati. My Senior Issues Forum is Dec. 11 in Petaluma. And I’m holding a Holiday Open House Dec. 18 in Vallejo. I encourage you to attend.

As always, my office is available to help you with a state agency or answer any questions you might have. You can contact me by visiting my website.

Sincerely,

Senator, 3rd District

Honoring Veterans, One Job at a Time

As we paid tribute to our nation's veterans on Nov.11, I was reminded of the sacrifices our active duty personnel, veterans and their families make for all of us and our country.

Did you know there are more veterans who call California home than any other state? Let us commemorate the service of our veterans, sharing their stories for future generations, and providing them with the quality services and benefits they have earned and deserve.

Please visit my website for veterans' resources, including job opportunities through California's Work for Warriors Program.

Joint Legislative Hearing on Wildfire Insurance

The October 2017 wildfires destroyed thousands of homes, forcing many people to call on their insurance companies for help. Imagine their dismay when many found they were underinsured or their insurers failed to provide the coverage they paid for. At a joint meeting in Napa Oct. 30 of Assembly and Senate insurance committees we heard from industry experts about what could be done to assist homeowners. We also heard from legislative leaders about what they plan to do in the future so people get the coverage they deserve. Missed the meeting? Watch the video here.

Small Business Saturday

Missing immage

As the biggest holiday shopping season approaches, I encourage you to shop local. This year, Saturday, Nov. 24, is known as "Small Business Saturday" as a way to show support for our many local small businesses.

As a small business owner for over 25 years, I know that one of the best investments we can make in our community is supporting local businesses. Local business owners are the backbone of California's economy. Contact my office or click here to learn about resources for small business owners.

Submit Your Ideas for Legislation

Do you have an idea for a new law or a change to existing law that will help our state better serve the public? All constituents are invited to submit ideas and proposals of their own for a new state law.

The law can cover any issue, from something particular in our neighborhoods to something that can improve the quality of life throughout California. Previous ideas submitted to legislators have included laws that have cracked down on misleading advertising, a bill that enables individuals who vote by mail to confirm their ballots were counted, and a measure that created a pilot program to link the state’s community colleges with local chambers of commerce to promote business development and job creation.

What is your idea? If it is the one selected, you may have the opportunity to travel to Sacramento and testify before a Senate Committee on the merits of the bill. You can submit your ideas online by clicking here. Please include as much detail as possible.
