Sen. Dodd Lauds Eviction Moratorium Extension

Thursday, January 28, 2021

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, issued the following statement today as the Legislature voted to extend the statewide eviction moratorium, protecting landlords and tenants affected by the coronavirus pandemic:

“With the economy reeling and so many people out of work, it is absolutely essential that we help people struggling to keep a roof over their heads,” Sen. Dodd said. “Extending the eviction moratorium is a commonsense measure to support tenants and landlords. It is one of the key steps we are taking to ensure California’s economic recovery as we beat this pandemic.”

Senate bills 89 and 91 will extend the current eviction moratorium to June 30. The previous moratorium was set to expire Sunday.

Under California’s Tenant Relief Act, renters and landlords may apply together for $2.6 billion in federal stimulus money to cover unpaid rent. It pays up to a year of past unpaid rents and covers up to three months of future rent. Priority is being given to unemployed and low-income tenants.
