Tuesday, March 30, 2021

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, issued the following statement today in response to an announcement from Gov. Gavin Newsom that California would invest more than $80 million to hire 1,400 new firefighters, bolstering fuels management and response efforts before the coming wildfire season:

“Given the wildfire devastation we’ve experienced over the past five years, it is essential that we enhance our response capability to save lives and property,” Sen. Dodd said. “If there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s the value of prepositioning firefighters and rapid deployment at critical times. Already we have made progress, and this investment builds on that success. Using funds previously approved by the Legislature, Gov. Newsom is expanding our ability to stop these fires quickly.”
