Sen. Dodd’s Online Wine Auction Bill Signed by Governor

SACRAMENTO – Legislation from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, that will expand the ability of business associations and nonprofit groups to conduct online wine auctions, increasing fundraising potential and contributing to California’s economic recovery, has been signed into law by Gov. Gavin Newsom.

“In response to the pandemic and the rapid growth of virtual events, it makes perfect sense to expand the ability to hold online auctions,” Sen. Dodd said. “With this new law, groups can step up much-needed fundraising, improving our economy and charitable giving while keeping our communities safe. I appreciate the governor for lending his support.”

Senate Bill 1011, written by Sen. Dodd, applies to registered nonprofits and trade organizations. It expands the number of times both groups can hold annual fundraising auctions. Also, it allows trade groups to conduct online auctions for up to 15 consecutive days instead of two days under current law.

The bill is sponsored by Napa Valley Vintners.
