Sen. Dodd Recognizes Sonoma Teens’ Lifesaving Act

Monday, August 8, 2022

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, formally recognized three Sonoma teenagers at the Capitol today for their heroic actions in saving the life of a friend who collapsed on a basketball court with a heart attack.

“Because of their decisive action, a young man in our community is alive today,” said Sen. Dodd. “If it wasn’t for them, the situation might not have turned out the way it did.  Their actions saved a life and inspired an entire community. I am proud to recognize these heroes at the Capitol today.”

Sonoma residents Toby Ford-Monroe, Mason Matulaitis and Nate Jordan were playing basketball June 15 at Sonoma Valley High School when their friend, Mikey Serbicki, collapsed on the court. The three immediately rushed to his aid, performing CPR and deploying an automated external defibrillator to start Mikey’s heart. They were still helping as paramedics arrived and transported Mikey to a hospital. Mikey, 16, has since made a full recovery.

Toby Ford-Monroe, Mason Matulaitis and Nate Jordan are 2020 graduates of Sonoma Valley High School. Mikey Serbicki graduated from SVHS in 2022. All four appeared at the state Capitol today.
