SACRAMENTO – A plethora of bills from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, advanced today to the Assembly floor, setting up voting that will send them to Gov. Gavin Newsom’s desk and continue the senator’s track record of being one of California’s most effective legislators.

“These bills are all about improving people’s lives, whether it’s expanding broadband access or protecting our communities from wildfire,” Sen. Dodd said. “It’s my great privilege to work on behalf of the people of this state. And I appreciate the support of my Assembly colleagues.”

Today nine bills cleared the Assembly’s Appropriations committee and will be sent to a floor vote of the 80-member chamber over the next two weeks. Once they clear the Legislature, the governor will have until Sept. 30 to sign them into law. Among the bills advancing today are:

SB 717 Broadband: would survey barriers to expansion of broadband service to increase internet connectivity and help close the Digital Divide

SB 842 Durable Medical Goods: would establish a pilot program reusing durable medial goods such as wheelchairs and walkers

SB 926 Prescribed Fire: would make operational a prescribed fire claims fund to aid in wildfire prevention

SB 1107 Auto Insurance: would update minimum mandatory liability insurance, protecting the public from being underinsured

They join six bills from Sen. Dodd that are already pending final passage by the Legislature, including measures to allow local agencies establish climate resilience districts, encourage defensible space against wildfires and assist pandemic-impacted families in paying water bills. Another three are already on the governor’s desk including one to prevent the corruption of our electoral process.

No current California legislator has been more prolific over the past eight years Sen. Dodd has held office. He has written and passed 82 laws in his tenure, including two earlier this year. Observers have lauded Sen. Dodd for the volume and quality of his proposals.

“Sen. Dodd continues an impressive record of achievement with this set of bills,” said David McCuan, political science professor at Sonoma State University. “The senator and his skilled team continue to grind out legislation that moves the needle forward for all of California.  His experience and depth of commitment to passing legislation that is both sensible and meaningful is noteworthy in a crowd of attention-seekers.  Sen. Dodd actually gets things done.”
