Sen. Dodd: State Awards $4 Million for Local Wildfire Prevention Projects
SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, announced today that Cal Fire’s Wildfire Prevention Grants Program has awarded more than $4 million to North Bay communities pursuing fire-safety projects including hazardous fuels reduction, planning and education with an emphasis on improving public health and safety while reducing greenhouses gases.
“Protecting our communities from the devastating effects of climate-driven wildfire is a top priority,” Sen. Dodd said. “I appreciate my colleagues including Senate President pro Tem Mike McGuire for helping to make these grants happen. It’s heartening to know this important to everyone and I’m glad to see this money going to key projects in our area.”
The grants were made available with funds appropriated by the Legislature and Gov. Gavin Newsom. The following four North Bay projects were identified among numerous others statewide:
- $1.8 million to Sonoma County Agricultural and Open Space District, Northside Russian River Shaded Fuel Break Project
- $1.1 million to the Napa Communities Firewise Foundation, Greater Berryessa WUI Wildfire preparedness: Grazing, Defensible Space, Signs and Response
- $700,000 to Yolo County Resource Conservation District for Yolo County RCD Fire Resilience Program Implementaiton
- $447,000 to the Mayacamas Volunteer Fire Foundation, Mayacamas Cavedale Trinity Triangle Fuel Reduction Project
