SACRAMENTO – Heeding the call for greater access to maternity care, especially for women of color, the Legislature late Monday approved a bill from Sens. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, Holly Mitchell, D-Los Angeles and Assemblymember Autumn Burke, D- Inglewood, to expand the role of nurse-midwives across California. Senate Bill 1237, sponsored by the California Nurse-Midwives Association and Black Women for Wellness, heads next to Gov. Gavin Newsom for a signature.

SACRAMENTO – A proposal from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, that would allow UC Davis to sell wine made by viticulture and enology students, generating funds for the university during uncertain financial times caused by the coronavirus pandemic, was approved late Sunday by the Legislature.

SACRAMENTO – The Legislature late Sunday approved a bill from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, to improve horse racing safety across California and build on reforms adopted last year.

“We must do everything possible to make horse racing safer for animals and jockeys, and this bill takes another step in that direction,” Sen. Dodd said. “I thank the Legislature for approving my plan, which will help ensure track conditions are right and horses are fit before they hit the starting gate.”

NAPA – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, issued the following statement today on the destructive wildfires burning in five Northern California counties, including large parts of Senate District 3, known collectively as the LNU Lightning Complex fires:

“My thoughts are with first-responders as they risk life and limb to keep our communities safe,” Sen. Dodd said. “We need maximum resources to attack what has become a significant threat, leading to the evacuation of thousands of families. It is absolutely essential that people be prepared to evacuate and get out when told to do so.”

 SACRAMENTO -- Legislation from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, that would streamline residential insurance claims for victims of disasters such as wildfires cleared a key committee today.

“Californians facing the dual threat of wildfires and the coronavirus pandemic shouldn’t be subjected to insurance company delays when filing a disaster claim,” Sen. Dodd said. “This bill prevents people from being buried under mountains of paperwork and gets them what they need to recover in a timely manner. It’s especially important to have that peace of mind in these uncertain times.”
