Experts offer tips to avoid getting ripped off

AMERICAN CANYON — Scams, fraud and identity theft can strike anyone, particularly many older people living in the Napa Valley. That’s why the Senior Scam Stopper seminar was held Monday in American Canyon to provide information on the myriad ways criminals try to prey on vulnerable people.
Organized by Assemblyman Bill Dodd, D-Napa, and the Contractors State License Board, the event offered tips and tragic tales to educate and help people avoid getting ripped off by those running schemes through the mail, by phone, on the Internet or in person through a knock on the front door.
