Sen. Dodd Issues Statement on Senate’s New Leader

Monday, February 5, 2024

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, issued the following statement today upon the swearing in of Senate President pro Tem Mike McGuire, D-North Coast, who takes over the Senate’s top leadership position from Sen. Toni Atkins, D-San Diego.

“Nobody works harder than Mike McGuire, and I know he’ll continue that ethic in his new leadership role, making California a better place to live and work.” Sen. Dodd said. “He’s always thoughtful and deliberate but he is also tough and won’t shy away from taking the necessary steps to move us forward. This will be important as we make our way through a difficult budget year. We’ve built a great friendship working together on more issues than I could possible recount, and I can say unequally that there has never been a better partner than Sen. McGuire in delivering results for our region and our state.”

“I’m also thankful to our outgoing pro Tem, Sen. Atkins, who has been a great leader, in both the Senate and the Assembly. I’m proud to have served with her in both chambers, and I know that she will continue to be a force for improving our state.”
