North Bay Legislators Host Sonoma State University Legislative Forum – Tomorrow 2/21, 2-5pm
North Bay Legislative Leaders Announce Legislative Forum to Hear Directly From Campus Community and North Bay Residents about the University's Recent Actions to Address $24 Million Deficit and to Hold the CSU System Accountable
February 21, 2025, 2-5pm at Sonoma State University
SACRAMENTO—Senator Cabaldon (D-Davis) and Assemblymember Damon Connolly (D-San Rafael) will co-chair a public legislative forum on Friday, February 21, 2025 at Sonoma State University (SSU) in the Student Center Ball Room from 2-5pm. They will be joined by Senate President pro Tempore Mike McGuire (D-North Coast), Assembly Majority Leader Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters), Assemblymember Chris Rogers (D-Santa Rosa), and Congressman Mike Thompson (D-St. Helena), along with representatives from the California State University (CSU) Chancellor’s Office, SSU administration, students, faculty, staff, and impacted community members.
Sonoma State University, struggling with a $24 million deficit budget, recently announced a proposal to eliminate administrative and faculty positions, classes, and it’s entire NCAA Division II Athletics program.
In response, local legislative leaders are moving quickly to help stabilize the situation and do a deep dive on how SSU accumulated a $24 million deficit, hear from affected parties, and discuss the university’s plan to move forward as a responsible steward of the community and its students. Recognizing the critical role SSU plays in the North Bay and the countless lives it impacts, legislative leaders will be holding the CSU accountable to ensure a long-term turnaround plan is developed and implemented that is inclusive of the greater North Bay community and economy which the campus serves.
Please RSVP here. An RSVP is encouraged, but not required.
The forum will be live steamed here.
