Senator Christopher Cabaldon welcomes governor’s support of housing bond, pushes to restore funding for homelessness and higher education

Sen. Christopher Cabaldon (D-Yolo) Wednesday welcomed Gov. Gavin Newsom’s expression of support for a housing bond on the 2026 ballot. Cabaldon is the author of SB 417, a $10 billion bond to support the construction, rehabilitation, and preservation of affordable housing. At the same time, Sen. Cabaldon said he would push for the restoration of funding for homelessness, housing, and the University of California and California State University systems

Cabaldon Bill to automatically admit high school seniors to CSU advances in state Senate

SACRAMENTO (April 31, 2025) The California Senate Education Committee Wednesday voted unanimously in favor of SB 640, a bill by state Sen. Christopher Cabaldon that would offer automatic California State University acceptance to qualified students without the need to apply. Supporters say it would increase the number of people going to college and help CSU campuses struggling with under-enrollment.

Cabaldon legislation to prioritize health care over profits clears Senate committee

A bill by Sen. Christopher Cabaldon to prevent private equity investors from dictating health care decisions based on profit cleared its second policy committee Tuesday (April 29). SB 351 is sponsored by the California Medical Association. It would strengthen California’s existing ban on the corporate practice of medicine by empowering the Attorney General’s office to investigate and bring action against private equity groups or hedge funds that interfere with or exert control over the practice of medicine.

Sen. Cabaldon supports Napa Valley leaders in urging state to keep 'car tax' promise

Sen. Cabaldon joined Napa County Supervisors Belia Ramos and Liz Alessio; Napa City Councilmember Beth Painter; and Calistoga Vice Mayor Irais Lopez-Ortega in pushing for a permanent solution to how the state reimburses local governments for funding they received from vehicle registration fees before Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and the Legislature slashed them in 2004. Napa County and its cities face devastating budget shortfalls in the coming years as a result of the current VLF formula.
