SACRAMENTO – With the conclusion of the 2023 legislative session, Senator Bill Dodd, D-Napa, had a total of 14 bills signed into law this year by Gov. Gavin Newsom, continuing his streak as California’s most prolific lawmaker during the past nine years. These new laws created meaningful policy including addressing sexual harassment and violence reporting on California State University campuses, the proliferation of junk fees, recycling and broadband connectivity.

Bill Dodd, D-Napa, will lead a bipartisan delegation to France to exchange best practices on climate-smart technologies and policies, including nuclear energy, low carbon farming, high speed rail, and more. The delegation comprises California legislators, environmental and labor leaders, business executives, and public policy experts.

SACRAMENTO – Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed legislation from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, that would improve broadband and internet connectivity across California by allowing the state to lease its property to providers for deployment of new infrastructure.

“With approval of this new law, the state can use its property to generate revenue while enticing providers to expand their offerings,” Sen. Dodd said. “It will fill in unserved zones and help get high-speed data to those who need it for work, school and home life. I thank the governor for signing it into law. ”

Nancy Skinner, D-Berkeley, to outlaw hidden charges on purchases – also known as junk fees --  ensuring consumers are not exposed to deceptive business practices that add unfair costs.

SACRAMENTO – Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed a bill from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, that allows the continuation of an important fundraising tool for nonprofits -- 50-50 raffles at major league sports stadiums.

“Over the years, these raffles have raised millions for a diverse group of charitable organizations throughout the state,” Sen. Dodd said. “They provide an important funding tool for a host of organizations benefiting youth and the underserved. With the governor’s signature on this new law, we can ensure that continues.”
