Delta Week and Coastal Cleanup Day

One of California's most important waterways is right here in our district -- the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta. With a watershed spanning 45,000 square miles, it is a source for drinking water for two-thirds of the state's population or 27 million people. It is also is home to 500,000 people and a vast array of fish, birds and wildlife. Farmers and businesses alike depend on it and it attracts more than 12 million visitors each year.

In recognition of the Delta and its significance to California, the Legislature has approved my request to designate the second week of September as Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Watershed Protection Week. This year, it kicks off Sept. 10.

Our supporters include various agencies including the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Conservancy. Here's a link to their website: http://deltaconservancy.ca.gov/

Please show your support for the Delta by participating in the annual Delta Waterway Cleanup on Saturday, Sept. 15. A link to cleanup sites can be found on the California Delta Protection Commission website here: http://delta.ca.gov/recreation/cleanup/
