Sen. Dodd Reappointed to Lead Key Committee

Monday, December 14, 2020

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, was reappointed today to the chair of the powerful Senate Governmental Organization committee, which oversees a wide array of important policy areas – from emergency services to alcoholic beverage laws.

“It’s a great privilege to continue my leadership role on a committee that is charged with shaping policy in so many vital areas,” Sen. Dodd said. “Recent wildfires across the state make oversight of disaster services policy absolutely critical. And of course, California’s dominance in the wine and craft beer industries makes legislation in those areas highly relevant.  I thank Sen. Atkins for putting me in a spot where I can do the most for my district and our entire state.”

Sen. Dodd made a substantial impact as chairman over the past two years, writing laws for a statewide wildfire weather forecast center, to ensure the creation of defensible firefighting spaces around homes and to improve horse racing safety, among other things.

In addition to emergency services and alcohol regulation, the Governmental Organization committee oversees more than two-dozen diverse policy areas including state contracts, tribal compacts, state property, interstate agreements, seismic safety, the lottery, horse racing and gaming.

Also today, Sen. Dodd was appointed to the following policy committees: Energy, Utilities and Communications; Insurance; Transportation; and Business, Professions and Economic Development. He also was appointed to two joint committees: Emergency Management and Fairs Allocation and Classification.
