Sen. Dodd Secures $1.9 Million for Solano Co. Wildfire Safety

Wednesday, July 14, 2021

SOLANO COUNTY – With California’s wildfire season off to an early and destructive start, Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, today announced he’s secured a $1.9 million state budget allocation for Solano County to boost its wildfire prevention and suppression efforts.

“We’ve seen what fire can do in Solano County, so it’s essential that we get the resources we need to keep our communities safe,” Sen. Dodd said. “Part of the solution lies in reducing combustible fuels, enhancing our alert systems and bolstering our firefighting forces. Given the early start to the wildfire season, I’m glad California is able to make this important, local investment.”

The $262.6 billion budget approved by Gov. Gavin Newsom and the Legislature includes investments in essential services statewide including a sweeping pandemic recovery program, improvements for education and funding for wildfire and drought relief – all of which will benefit people in his six-county North Bay district. In addition, Sen. Dodd secured several specific allocations such as the $1.9 million for Solano County. The money is to be invested by the county in several specific wildfire-related areas:

  • Wildfire safety: Solano County to invest in for fuels reduction, alert warning systems, fire preparedness, public engagement and education.

Solano County officials lauded the allocation.

“I am grateful for Sen. Dodd, who is working hard for Solano County to secure funds to make our communities safer when it comes to wildfire,” said John Vasquez, chairman of the Board of Supervisors. “With the recent and ongoing wildfire activity we’ve seen in our region it is important as ever to take a hard look at wildfire prevention. Our communities continue to be impacted and our residents often find themselves serving as their first line of defense when a disaster such as a wildfire threatens their life and property.”

“These funds secured by Sen. Dodd’s office will make a difference on the ground,” said Chris Rose, executive director of Solano Resource Conservation District. “Solano Resource Conservation District, in partnership with Solano County, and participating landowners will be able to ramp-up our efforts and move forward with wildfire prevention and preparedness in Solano County.”
