Sen. Dodd: September is Preparedness Month

September is Preparedness Month

Dear Neighbor,

This has been a challenging year for California as we feel the dual impacts of a devastating pandemic and some of the largest wildfires in state history.

The state has responded by making numerous resources and programs available to you. In the Capitol, I’ve created policy to protect seniors and people with disabilities in nursing homes, to streamline the disaster insurance claims process and to ensure people are alerted to approaching disasters.

But it’s also a good time to reflect on our shared responsibility to protect ourselves by being prepared. I join Gov. Gavin Newsom in recognizing September 2020 as Preparedness Month.

Covid-19: Wear a mask. Practice social distancing. Avoid gatherings. Stay home if you feel sick. Details are here https://covid19.ca.gov/

Wildfires: Register for disaster alerts. Create a defensible space around your home. Pack a go-bag in case of an evacuation. More useful tips: https://www.readyforwildfire.org/
