Wednesday, May 29, 2019

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, issued the following statement today in response to the release of a draft report from the Commission on Catastrophic Costs and Recovery outlining its recommendations for solving California’s wildfire crisis.

“The safe, affordable and reliable delivery of energy is a top priority, as is helping wildfire victims get full compensation for their losses,” Sen. Dodd said. “As chair of the select committee that is point on this issue, I look forward to vetting this report with my fellow committee members and working with the administration to enact solutions.

Sen. Dodd’s SB 901 created the commission last year in response to the increasing threat of wildfires. Working under the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research, the commission was to examine issues related to wildfires associated with utility infrastructure and to produce recommended changes to the law that would ensure equitable distribution of costs to affected parties. Those recommendations are due to the governor and Legislature by July 1.
