Sen. Dodd Responds to PG&E Power Shutoff Action

Monday, October 14, 2019

NAPA – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, issued the following statement today regarding responses to last week’s PG&E power shutoff from Gov. Gavin Newsom and California Public Utilities President Marybel Batjer:

“I commend Gov. Newsom for demanding a review into the scope and timing of last week’s poorly handled power shutoff, which caused unnecessary suffering and inconvenience to hundreds of thousands of Californians,” Sen. Dodd said. “It was severely bungled on the part of PG&E, and it can’t be allowed to happen again. While public safety power shutoffs have a role to play, they cannot be executed in a cavalier or haphazard manner. I look forward to the Public Utilities Commission holding PG&E to account and mandating substantial changes to protect the public going forward.”

On Friday, Sen. Dodd sent a letter to the Public Utilities Commission president, urging she look into the power shutoff. The letter is attached.
