Sen. Dodd Recognized by University of California
SACRAMENTO – The University of California has named Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, a “Lifetime Legislative Champion” in recognition of his work on behalf of higher education during his 10 years in the Assembly and Senate.
“We’re truly fortunate to have great public institutions in this state, and the University of California leads the way,” Sen. Dodd said. “During my tenure I’ve placed a priority on advocating for our flagship system so it can continue to provide its world-class educational experience and pursue excellence in research and innovation. My hope is the work I’ve done will help benefit Californians for years to come.”
During his time in office, Sen. Dodd has secured tens of millions of dollars in budget appropriations and grants for UC Davis, which is part of his North Bay Senate District. Senator Dodd wrote the law allowing UC Davis’s viticulture and enology students to sell the wine produced by the program and spearheaded another measure securing CalFresh benefits for struggling students. At the same time, he has penned bills to help the 10-campus University of California system as a whole, including his bills to make campuses safer and connect students facing food insecurity with CalFresh benefits. Sen. Dodd has also been a staunch advocate for state investments in the UC system, making policy decisions promoting fiscal stability and building student housing.
“I’m pleased to recognize Sen. Bill Dodd as a Lifetime Legislative Champion of the University of California,” said UC President Michael V. Drake, M.D. “He has been a steadfast supporter of public higher education and has authored bills to strengthen the university’s research. The vital investments in education he helped secure over the course of his career have positively impacted generations of California students, helping them on the path to a college degree and setting them up for success in life.”
