Sen. Dodd: Data Privacy Week Begins Jan. 22

Hello,

I am pleased to designate the fourth week in January in California as Data Privacy Week.

It comes in recognition of the increasing role of technology in consumers’ lives, the large volume of personal information collected by businesses and the damage caused by unwanted disclosure and data breaches.

We must stay informed about how to protect our privacy. Fortunately, California has been a leader in adopting consumer protections without stifling innovation.

To help in this effort, the California Privacy Protection Agency is launching a new website, privacy.ca.gov. I encourage all Californians to visit the website to learn about your rights under the law and resources available. Also, if you feel their rights have been violated, you can file a complaint through the website.
