SACRAMENTO – Heather Stanton, a longtime Napa County public servant who has devoted her retirement to helping Napa and Solano county seniors, was honored by Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, as 2019 Woman of the Year.

“I have been so very fortunate to have had the unique opportunity to serve our community over the past 27 years,” Heather Stanton said. “And I have been blessed to work alongside so many great public servants and community members. I thank Sen. Dodd for this tremendous recognition.”

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, and Sen. Mike McGuire, D-North Coast, have been appointed co-chairs of the Senate Select Committee on California’s Wine Industry for the 2019-20 legislative session. The pair co-chaired the committee during the last legislative session.

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, reminds taxpayers of two key benefits as they approach the April 15 deadline to file taxes:

Free preparation assistance is available from California’s Franchise Tax Board’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and a Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) program to help individuals with limited incomes complete their tax returns.

SACRAMENTO – In an effort to bring attention to gambling addiction and connect people with treatment, the California Senate today passed a bipartisan resolution from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, declaring March Problem Gambling Awareness Month.

“I hope this will promote a better understanding of problem gambling and prompt people struggling with problem gambling to seek help,” said Sen. Dodd. “Awareness and access to services are critical for anyone struggling with addiction, and that includes those facing gambling problems."

SACRAMENTO – A resolution from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, designating the week of Feb. 25 to March 3, 2019 as Eating Disorders Awareness Week was adopted by the Senate by unanimous vote.

“I’ve seen firsthand how painful and difficult these disorders can be,” said Sen. Dodd. “I’ve also seen that recovery is possible. And I can attest to the importance of awareness, understanding and a strong support network for those on the journey to recovery.”

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, has introduced legislation that would protect California’s elderly and dependent adults by adding “abandonment” to the list of acts against them that could lead to increased civil penalties for caregivers.

“All too often we’ve seen our vulnerable seniors be left behind to fend for themselves, especially in disasters,” Sen. Dodd said. “I want to send a clear message that such conduct will not be tolerated and those who do it will be held accountable. My goal is to create a deterrent to prevent it from happening again.”

SACRAMENTO -- California has seen the cost of fighting wildfires grow to record highs over the past decade. Today, Sen. Bill Dodd, Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara, and Treasurer Fiona Ma proposed a new model to reduce wildfire risk with California Disaster Insurance (Senate Bill 290).

SB 290 authorizes the Governor, Insurance Commissioner, and Treasurer to enter into an insurance policy that pays out when California has unexpected costs for disaster response.
