NAPA – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, released the following statement today in response to a tentative $13.5 billion settlement between Pacific Gas & Electric and victims of California wildfires:

“It’s certainly a positive development that a settlement was reached,” said Sen. Dodd, who represents victims of the devastating 2017 wildfires in Napa and Sonoma counties. “But PG&E shouldn’t have taken this long to compensate victims.”

NAPA – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, issued the following statement today after the California Horse Racing Board placed new safety conditions on Santa Anita Park in an effort to curb racing-horse deaths:

“I appreciate the horse racing board acting to implement additional safety measures,” said Sen. Dodd. “It’s not the end of the discussion, but it does represent concrete steps in the right direction. I’ll be working with the board and governor to continue ensuring horse safety is paramount.”

SONOMA – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, will host a town hall meeting Nov. 25 in Sonoma to discuss continued concern over wildfire safety and recent widespread electric power shutoffs by Pacific Gas & Electric Co.

“We must keep our communities safe, and the way PG&E has responded is unacceptable,” said Sen. Dodd. “I’m calling for fundamental change to the governance, control and oversight of the troubled utility.”

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, today commended Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara for advocating on behalf of 2017 wildfire survivors to persuade 26 insurance companies to voluntarily extend temporary living expense benefits beyond the two-year requirement.

“I appreciate the insurance commissioner for joining us in pushing the industry to do the right thing,” Sen. Dodd said. “It shouldn’t be so hard. But I’m glad the companies that did finally came around.”
