SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, announced today that Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed his legislation to help California oversee its water, protecting the precious resource for people and the environment.

“Water is an essential resource in California that must be protected and carefully managed,” Sen. Dodd said. “It is quite simply the lifeblood of our state. Stream gages provide important information in this era of droughts and flooding, driven in part by climate change. You can’t manage what you don’t measure.”

SACRAMENTO – Recognizing the value of properly installed car and booster seats in safeguarding children, Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, has passed a resolution designating the third week of September as Child Passenger Safety Week.

“Putting in car seats correctly can save lives,” Sen. Dodd said. “All too often they are improperly installed and children are injured or even killed. My hope is to bring awareness to this situation and prevent the future tragic loss of life.”

SACRAMENTO – The Legislature today approved a plan from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, to enable collaboration and innovation between the state Department of Parks and Recreation, universities and researchers.

“I commend my fellow lawmakers for passing this commonsense bill, which will allow researchers to better utilize scientific discoveries made in state parks,” Sen. Dodd said. “This will encourage discovery while allowing California to realize substantial social, ecological and economic benefits.”

SACRAMENTO – The Legislature today approved a plan from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, that would allow the construction of low-income housing under the Napa Pipe mixed-use development.

“Napa is now a step closer to getting this long-sought project, which will help bring affordable and market-rate housing for our workforce and reduce commute traffic,” Sen. Dodd said. “The bill lets the county and city work together to address our housing shortage.”

SACRAMENTO – The Legislature late Wednesday approved a trio of wildfire-safety bills from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, that seek to prevent and prepare for the kinds of climate change-driven infernos that have burned across California.

“I thank my fellow lawmakers for making it a priority to address this growing threat to my home district and the entire state,” Sen. Dodd said. “We must be proactive to get a handle on these destructive blazes before they claim more lives and property. These are important steps that will go a long way toward protecting the public.”

SACRAMENTO – The Legislature approved a bill Tuesday from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, that would reduce the cost of road projects that use federal transportation funds, allowing more improvements with the same amount of money.

“My bill would streamline an often duplicative and bureaucratic process, making every transportation dollar count,” Sen. Dodd said. “We can use that savings to expand both the number and quality of projects, providing Californians with the good roads they deserve.”

SACRAMENTO – The Legislature today approved a wildfire-inspired proposal from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, that would help low-income people who rely on life-support equipment to receive backup power during electric transmission line de-energization.

“Clearly, we must protect vulnerable people who rely on critical-care equipment as climate change drives up our fire risk,” Sen. Dodd said. “My bill says that before utilities can shut off the power to prevent an inferno, they must develop plans to ensure the health and safety of those who are most defenseless.”

SACRAMENTO –Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, announced today his legislation allowing Napa County to negotiate with the state to buy the 850-acre Skyline Wilderness Park has been signed into law by Gov. Gavin Newsom.

If Napa County acquires the prime property with its popular hiking trails and views of the Bay Area, Senate Bill 20 also mandates that it is used for parkland or open space only.
