Bill Dodd, D-Napa, Holly Mitchell, D-Los Angeles and Assemblymember Autumn Burke, D- Inglewood, to improve access to high-quality maternity care in California, cleared a key committee today with overwhelming, bipartisan support. Senate Bill 1237, sponsored by the California Nurse-Midwives Association and Black Women for Wellness, also would curb disparities in outcomes for black women and infants and counter the obstetrician shortage – projected to be critical in some counties by 2025.

SACRAMENTO – Legislation from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, that would streamline residential insurance claims for victims of disasters such as wildfires has cleared a key committee.

“People who pay their premiums deserve to be taken care of without unnecessary delay,” Sen. Dodd said. “They definitely shouldn’t have to jump through hoops when their homes have been damaged or destroyed. Insurance companies must act swiftly to advance living expenses for temporary housing and other costs and they shouldn’t bury home owners in exhaustive inventory forms.”

ISLETON – Jean Yokotobi was born in a Northern California Japanese internment camp during World War II and devoted her retirement to promoting her adopted delta community of Isleton and preserving its Chinese- and Japanese-American heritage. She has been named Sacramento County Woman of the Year by Sen. Bill Dodd.
