June marks the beginning of summer, and I hope your family has a chance to get out and enjoy our beautiful state. With a majority of people now vaccinated against the coronavirus and most activities open, it promises to be a fantastic season.

I hope this monthly newsletter finds you and your family well. Spring’s arrival as well as the decline in coronavirus infections gives us much reason for optimism.

Recognizing the history and achievements of African Americans -- as well as the continuing struggle for civil rights, equal opportunity and prosperity -- is the focus of February’s Black History Month. This year, it comes at a time of great reckoning, redemption and hope.

With the holidays upon us, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for re-electing me to represent you in the California Senate. And I wish you and your loved ones a safe and happy new year.
