A Message from Bill Dodd

Dear Neighbor,

This month marks the start of spring, which represents growth and presents us with an excellent opportunity to reflect on our progress as a community. Over the past year, we’ve made meaningful progress in a number of areas, including wildfire recovery, but there is still much to be done. That is why I’m advancing proposals for new fire prevention safeguards by utilities, insurance reforms, emergency alerts, increased mutual aid, and additional state support for impacted communities. At the same time we must continue to improve our education system, and provide every Californian with access to preschool, and I have authored a bill to help accomplish that.

Dear Neighbor,

February is Black History Month, which is a time to reflect on the vast contributions African Americans have made and continue to make to our nation, as well as the ongoing struggle for civil rights, equal opportunity and prosperity.

I hope your New Year is off to a great start. This month I introduced new bills to prevent wildfires and help disaster victims, expand preschool to all 4-year olds, and expand media literacy education. Governor Brown recently released his draft budget and gave his annual State of the State Address. I will be working to build our rainy day fund while investing in public services that are vital for the future of our state, like education and roads. We need to defend the progress we’ve made in recent years and continue moving in the right direction.

Dear Neighbor,

I hope you and your loved ones had a safe and happy Thanksgiving together. Given the devastating wildfires last month, Thanksgiving had an extra special meaning for our family this year.

Dear Neighbor,

This month our region was hit by devastating wildfires, including the worst wildfire in our state’s history. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by the fires.

State, federal, and local governments are working on recovery efforts, and resources are available to help those impacted by the fires. Examples include: unemployment benefits, debris removal, tax relief, business assistance, and housing assistance.

This month, children across our district are heading back to school, and in Sacramento the legislature will be considering key issues. I’m working to ensure we advance critical policies to the Governor’s desk to support our schools, working families, and seniors. You can learn more about key bills we’ve passed in this month’s newsletter.

For decades, Napa County has had an impact on the global economy through its world renowned wine industry. This industry would not exist were it not for the farmworkers who work the fields day in and day out. Since my time on the Napa County Board of Supervisors, I have always fought to ensure our farmworkers have the support they need, and I am proud to continue this good work into my career in the California State Legislature

This month, the Legislature passed and the Governor signed our state budget. Our budget reflects Californian values, investing in areas and programs that we know work.
