Bill Closes Loophole in Sentencing of Sexual Assault Crimes

SACRAMENTO – Legislation to help businesses financially recover from disasters unanimously passed the Assembly Floor this week. The bill, authored by Assemblymember Bill Dodd (D-Napa) and Senator Mike McGuire (D-Healdsburg), will provide tax relief by allowing impacted businesses to defer tax payments without additional costs. The idea for the bill was brought forward by Board of Equalization Chairwoman Fiona Ma in the aftermath of the Valley Fire in Lake County.

SACRAMENTO – The Identity Theft Resolution Act, a bill authored by Assemblymember Bill Dodd (D-Napa) unanimously passed the Assembly Floor with bipartisan support. The Identity Theft Resolution Act will dramatically reduce the time it takes for victims of identity theft to clear their name, end harassing phone calls, and remove negative credit reporting. The bill has received broad based support from Attorney General Kamala Harris, consumer advocates, and even segments of the debt collection industry.

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Bill Dodd (D-Napa) and Assemblymember Jim Frazier (D-Oakley) have teamed up to introduce new legislation that would strengthen the economic development powers of Solano County and its seven incorporated cities. The bill enables the county and its cities to create economic opportunities through the acquisition, sale or lease of properties and to boost rehabilitation of commercial buildings by offering loans to owners or tenants.

SACRAMENTO – A bill by Assemblymember Bill Dodd (D-Napa) to protect students and teachers during earthquakes took an important step forward this week, receiving unanimous bipartisan support from the Assembly Education Committee. Dodd’s bill would require school districts in California to ensure that the contents of their classroom, like heavy bookshelves or hanging light fixtures, comply with state earthquake safety guidelines.

SACRAMENTO, CA – A gender pay equity bill by Assemblymember Bill Dodd (D-Napa) recently took one step closer to becoming law after receiving unanimous bipartisan support from the Assembly Labor Committee. The legislation would ensure companies that do business with the state of California have fair compensation policies and practices that do not unlawfully differentiate between gender and race.

Sacramento—State Board of Equalization Member Fiona Ma, CPA, joined with Assemblymember Bill Dodd to introduce sweeping new legislation strengthening the Kopp Act, which establishes ethics and reporting standards for the State Board of Equalization. The Legislation, AB 1858, will reform portions of the Kopp Act by banning contributions from individuals and businesses that have cases before SBOE, as well as banning all behested payments, which are donations made directly to charities and non-profits at the request of an elected official.
